A prayer for union with God

A prayer of restoration, adapted from the Pause app by John Eldredge and Wild at Heart.
Sunset over a lake, by author

A communal prayer for restoration in our union with God, prepared for a Reflections service at church.

We will now come into a time of reflection, and I would like to lead us in this short prayer. This is adapted from the Wild at Heart Pause app, which is a Christian meditation app that draws from scripture and invites us to draw our hearts and our minds back to God each day.

This pause is inspired from a couple of verses which I will read out now. The first is John 17:22-23, which says,

"I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one– I in them and you in me."

And the second comes from Ephesians 3:19, which itself is a prayer for the people of God:

"That you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."

I will now lead us in this short prayer, and let's take this moment of reflection to ready our hearts to hear from God's Word. You might like to close your eyes and call on God in your heart with these words. Let's pray.

Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit– heal our union with you.

We love you, we believe you, we worship you. Restore our union, Lord. Heal and restore our union.

We pray for more of you, God. Fill us with more of you. We pray the River of Life would fill us, restore us, renew us, surround us.

We need more of you, God. Saturate us with your love. Saturate us with your life.

Amen
